A beautifully serene photograph of Sri Harmandir Sahib taken at sunrise. It is translated into the 'abode of God' and globally referred to as the 'Golden Temple.'

This place of pilgrimage for Sikhs is considered the holiest, located in Amritsar, Punjab. It took eight years to build and was completed by the fifth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji in 1604.

Its foundation stone was affectionately laid by a Muslim saint, Mian Mir at the request of the Guru and the structure symbolically has four entrances, to express the message and the home of the Guru is open to every person - without any distinction of caste, creed, gender and religion.

Sat within a sarovar, (pool) the Temple imitates a lotus that sits in water - a symbol popularly used in Indian philosophy to represent individual beauty and knowledge that all of mankind has the ability to bring to surface, amidst the murky waters of life.

This image was taken at ‘first light’ to capture the shimmer of gold from the Temple as the warm Indian sun emerges over the horizon, and to harness the peaceful serenity one feels when visiting Sri Harmandir Sahib.
